21st Congress of the Asian Association of Transfusion Medicine (AATM 2026)

Regional transfusion-medicine congress; blood storage, transport and inventory (an inherently temperature-controlled discipline) run as a reliable sub-theme within a broad clinical-scientific programme rather than as a dedicated cold-chain event. Pre-congress workshops run 13 December 2026.

The ColdChainer Briefing

What it is

The AATM Congress is the annual scientific meeting of the Asian Association of Transfusion Medicine, hosted for its 21st edition in Colombo with Sri Lanka's National Blood Transfusion Service. Its programme spans donor management, component preparation, testing, clinical transfusion and blood-bank operations, with pre-congress workshops on 13 December.

Why it matters

Blood is one of the most tightly temperature-controlled products handled anywhere - red cells at 1-6 C, platelets at 20-24 C under agitation, plasma frozen - so blood storage, cold-chain transport, inventory and blood-bank equipment are recurring congress themes. For cold-chain professionals in the blood and transfusion sector it is the main Asian venue where storage and distribution practice is set.

Who you'll meet

Transfusion-medicine physicians, blood-bank and blood-service directors, biomedical scientists and quality staff, plus blood-establishment equipment, cold-storage and monitoring vendors. Attendance is pan-Asian and clinical-scientific, running specialist to service-director level.
